MURRAY -- Macey Turley wasn't going to post single-digit scoring for a second game in a row.

So on Saturday night at the CFSB Center, she didn't, instead going 10-for-15 from the field, 4-for-6 from the arc and 5-for-5 from the stripe for a game-high 29 points, leading the Murray State Racers to a 74-60 win over SIU Edwardsville.

"Coaches have just been telling me to shoot more," Turley said with a laugh. "Even if they're bad shots, because usually my shot is going to be better than some other shots, or us turning it over.

"But I kind of forgot about Thursday's game, and I just wanted to come out here and just play the best I can."

Now 4-6 in the Ohio Valley Conference and riding a three-game winning streak, Turley wasn't the only one scoring effectively. Lex Mayes scored 14 points on 5-for-11 shooting, including the first five points on the game (and while nursing a broken nose). Macie Gibson shot 55% from the floor (5-for-9) and had 12 points and five rebounds. And Alexis Burpo added her third-straight double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds.

"You love to see it," Mayes said of Burpo. "You love to see it."

MSU (11-10), back above .500, got off to a splendid start and lead 17-4 midway through the first quarter behind a balanced attack. The Racers were up 23-12 heading into the second quarter by shooting 10-for-17 from the floor.

SIUE cut to within 26-25 on a 13-3 run to when the Racers responded against the Cougars zone, with two jumpers from Gibson and a trailing triple from Mayes (on a pass from Turley), to go back up 33-25.

Turley's third 3-pointer opened the fourth quarter and gave MSU a 57-48 lead. Her fourth: 66-54.

"These kids are really coming along," noted MSU third-year coach Rechelle Turner. "And a lot of our players have improved, and that's part of the reason that we've been successful for the last three games."
