CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- For 33 minutes, Murray State had the lead.

But the final half of the fourth quarter belonged to Austin Peay, which used its depth for a late push to overtake the Racers, 69-61, on Thursday night at the Dunn Center.

The Governors (14-10, 5-8 Ohio Valley Conference) were held to just 31% from the field by MSU, but scored 26 points in the final quarter. The Racers (11-14, 4-9) scored 24 points after halftime.

MSU junior forward Laci Hawthorne had 15 points, nine rebounds and four assists; sophomore point guard Macey Turley added 11 points, seven rebounds and two assists; and sophomore guard Alexis Burpo had 10 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

Turnovers, however - 15 of them - became 18 points for APSU. And six APSU turnovers? Zero points for the Racers. A tough 18-0 swing in an eight-point loss.

"We made some mental stakes defensively and offensively that may be due to fatigue," noted MSU third-year coach Rechelle Turner. "But they're just things that we cannot do in close games like this."

APSU's Brandi Ferby, who's spent half the season providing a lift on the bench, scored a game-high 20 points with four 3-pointers for the Govs - who took the lead for good at 58-55 on Maggie Knowles' only three of the game.

"We definitely still control our own destiny," Turner added. "It can go either way. But this is never over until the final buzzer, so we're going to fight. We've got five games left, and so we're going to go and prepare these kids as best we can and mentally and physically have them ready to play."
