There were questions about what Graves County would do under center this year, following the graduation of Ryan Mathis.

It’s safe to say the Eagles (3-3) have found the answer.

John Ben Brown, a junior, put together one of his best games as a starter last week.

Brown was 24-of-38 for 309 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in a 37-7 win over Ohio County.

For his efforts, Brown is this week’s Woodmen Life Player of the Week.

While he’s struggled some with consistency, Brown has earned the trust of Graves interim coach Nick Kemp, who said two weeks ago the first-year starter was, unequivocally, the young man for the job.

For the season, Brown has thrown for 1,276 yards, 16 touchdowns and two interceptions.

Graves is at Grayson County this week.
