FULTON -- A reasonably fast start from Fulton was enough to overcome a big blast by Madisonville for a 6-3 victory in Ohio Valley League action from Lohaus Stadium on Friday night.
The Railroaders moved into a virtual tie with the Paducah Chiefs for second place in the Western Division. Both teams trail the Hoptown Hoppers by four games.
With two on and one out in the bottom of the first inning, the Railroaders' Ian Drays grounded to shortstop, where an error let both runners score.
Fulton added a run in each of its next four innings for its total offense. The Miners did their only damage in the fifth when Najay King drilled a 2-2 pitch over the right-field wall for a three-run homer.
Alex Rodriguez picked up three hits for Madisonville. Nathan Bynum, O'Neil Burgos and Ty Wooton each had a pair of hits for the Railroaders.
Keshaun Mays struck out nine Miners over the first five innings for the win.
