Much can be said about Paducah Tilghman's dynamic running back duo in seniors Jayden Freeman and Damien Ford.

And there's even more to say about them after Friday night, as Ford broke loose for a late 88-yard score -- his third of the night -- on his way to 144 yards rushing, and Freeman added 216 yards receiving on six catches and two scores in the Blue Tornado's (6-2, 2-0) 49-13 district walloping of Union County at McRight Field.

But the evening belonged to Tilghman's junior quarterback Cam Marshall, who finished 11-for-23 with 274 yards passing, two scores and just one interception, and all while adding a touchdown-saving tackle on fourth down midway through the third quarter, as well as five rushes for 28 yards to keep his offense moving.

His lone mistake -- an interception over the middle with Tilghman up 27-0 midway through the second quarter -- wasn't even his fault.

"It was mine," noted Blue Tornado coach Jonathan Smith. "I called out the receiver he was supposed to throw it to, so that was not on him. That was on me.

"He ran the ball a little, and that's something else we've really worked on, that I'm going to continue to try to do because he's a helluv'an athlete. We'd be crazy not to let him run the ball some."

Marshall's best drive of the night came with Tilghman already up 14-0 and relishing a fourth-down stop of Braves running back Kristopher Hughes. He hit Ford over the middle for an easy 26-yard gain, then on third down hit Anton Jones for a conversion that only he could grab in single coverage.

He hit one of his shorter passes to Freeman -- 10 yards -- to get into the red zone, then scampered for 13 yards to set up a 5-yard touchdown from Ford for a 20-0 advantage.

"It's really all got to do with the line," Marshall said. "They're giving me time to throw the ball, and I've got time to make a play."

Marshall's two touchdown passes were on the money and both to Freeman (73 yards and 53 yards), with the second one giving the Blue Tornado a 34-0 lead with 9:14 left in the third quarter.

"We knew we were going to have to pass the ball since this summer, so we've worked on it, and we've got it down pat now," Freeman said.

Tilghman also got two defensive touchdowns against the Braves, including a 50-yard interception return from Turner Humphrey for a 27-0 advantage, as well as a 7-yard fumble recovery from Darionte Ragsdale, which gave the Blue Tornado a 48-6 lead with 8:19 left in regulation.
