Travis Perry is back for Lyon County this year, looking to improve on his 20.6 points a game for the 21-win Lyons a season ago.

He'll have a new coach, too -- who he'll probably have to ride to practice with.

Perry's dad, Ryan Perry, takes over for Jeff Embrey, who stepped down last spring.

"Not much will change this year," Ryan Perry said. "We will stick to that same plan and keep the ball in his hands and rely on his good decision making and dynamic scoring ability to lead this team. Travis's basketball IQ is off the charts and he really knows how to control a basketball game. For him, age is just a number."

Jackson Shoulders (12.5 ppg) is back, too, for the Lyons -- whose only notable losses are Gabe Board and Gabe Defew, who graduated in the spring.

Elsewhere across the Fifth and Seventh Districts, and Massac County …

• With a first-year coach, Caldwell County will look to press forward in 2019-20.

Chuck Mitchell, who was formerly an assistant at Paducah Tilghman for girls coach Stephen Dreher, took the Lady Tigers' coaching job over the summer.

Caldwell returns several, including Bella McConnell, who averaged 13.6 points a game, and junior guard Jacey Jaggers, who averaged 11.6 for the Lady Tigers last year.

• Gracie Howard is back for a Christian Fellowship group that won 10 games a season ago. She led the team in scoring with 13 points a game. The only starter missing from last year's team is Rachel Howard, who was second on the team with 6.6 points a game.

• Over in Illinois, Massac County's boys and girls return a host of talent that have both groups poised for a potential run in the Southern Illinois River Region.

Jase Mizell and Zach Travis lead a Patriot squad that went 18-14 a season ago.

The Lady Patriots return all but two -- Bailey Duckworth and Paige Box - including post threats Cali McCraw and Jessie Lewis, as well as shooter Farrah Castleman, for first-year coach Justin Kindle.
