Some of the best opportunities for setting eyes on bald eagles in the region can be had by taking eagle viewing cruises and van tours hosted by the Friends of Land Between the Lakes.
The LBL support group hosts Kentucky Lake cruises on the CQ Princess, a 96-foot double-decker yacht Saturday through Monday of next week. The cruises, all departing from Kenlake Marina at Kenlake State Resort Park at Aurora, include a catered meal afloat and indoor and on-deck viewing of eagles and other wildlife along LBL shores while naturalists explain the sights.
The schedule includes a brunch cruise 8:30-11:30 a.m. and a lunch cruise 1-4 p.m. both Jan. 18 and Jan. 19. A single lunch cruise is set for 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Jan. 20.
Van tours from the LBL's Woodlands Nature Station already are underway and will continue on Saturdays and Sundays through Feb. 2. After today, tours are set 1:30-5 p.m. Sunday; 8-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-5 p.m. Jan. 18; 1:30-5 p.m. Jan. 19; 2-5:30 p.m. Jan. 25; 2-5:30 p.m. Jan. 26; 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 2-5:30 p.m. Feb. 1; and 2-5:30 p.m. Feb. 2.
Naturalists guiding van tours to prime LBL viewing sites will help participants spot eagles and other wildlife and provide spotting scopes for magnified views.
