Hopkinsville defeats Caldwell County, 42-14

HOPKINSVILLE -- Jay Bland threw for 264 yards and four touchdowns and Reece Jesse had 12 catches for 210 yards and three scores as Hopkinsville defeated Caldwell County on Friday night in a battle between the Tigers.

Hopkinsville jumped out early to the 14-0 lead thanks to a pair of TD passes from Bland and a stalwart Tiger defensive front.

Once Caldwell got DeEric Hollowell going, the Tigers' offense started to move the ball. Hollowell led Caldwell down the field almost singlehandedly before quarterback Russ Beshear trotted into the end zone to cut the deficit in half.

In the second half, Bland continued his high level of play and sophomore tailback Jayden Dillard got into the mix. Bland threw two more touchdowns, both to Jesse, and Dillard scored twice on the ground as Hopkinsville pulled away from Caldwell County as the second half wore on.

The Bland to Jesse combo has been a deadly one to start the 2019 season. After tonight's game, the pair have connected 28 times for 467 yards and seven touchdowns.

Hopkinsville will travel to play Henderson County next week, while Caldwell County will hit the road for Crittenden County.
