The Bowling Green East team, representing Kentucky, advanced to the Little League World Series on Saturday with a 15-6 win over Illinois in the Great Lakes Region Championship at Westfield, Ind.

The Kentucky team scored nine runs in the second inning, highlighted by Evan Schallert's two hits, including a triple. Schallert also was the winning pitcher, allowing one run in one inning.

Kentucky is making its first LLWS appearance since 2016, also represented by Bowling Green East.

The Little League World Series is Aug. 15-25 at Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
