I serve as a member on the McCracken County School Board. I realize the school board is on the bottom of the totem pole in politics. However, I ran for office, heck, I fought to be in this position. I unequivocally take my duties seriously. Much like the community, all of the scandal, conflict and uncertainty has also worn me out. It has been exhausting. Yes, I signed up for this and yes, I will continue to serve.
While our board may be labeled as "dysfunctional" and that we "failed spectacularly," we are always respectful to one another, we are all giving of our time and lives, and we all have the students' best interest at heart. I would never want to be a part of a board or anything else where I couldn't freely voice my own opinions or concerns. We are not meant to agree on everything and have the same thought process. We absolutely can agree to disagree. It's one of the things that makes our board and even our society great. I believe there is a little dysfunction and failure in every aspect of life, no one is immune to it. I also believe that this just makes us all normal, imperfect human beings who were trying to do what they thought was right.
Our students have never skipped a beat throughout all of this due to our incredible teachers, staff and administrators. They deserve accolades.
I wholeheartedly feel Steven Carter and our district staff will take us to a new level of achievements and opportunities.
I will leave you with Winston Churchill who said, "Our greatest glory is not in never failing but in rising every time we fall." I am confident that you'll see McCracken County School District rise and shine in all of its glory.
