I'm a retired teacher who has spent countless hours following the issues in this election cycle to choose new leaders for our state. The current governor has prompted educators to come out swinging.
He is so unpopular in our state that he has resorted to focusing on national issues in this campaign to further divide us. Don't be misled. Illegal immigration and abortion are national issues and are not on the ballot in Kentucky. But they do serve to take the focus off of Kentucky issues, which we need to address.
Further, Gov. Matt Bevin continues his harsh, negative, and false criticisms of anyone opposing him even while linking Kentucky to these national concerns. That election is next year, and Kentucky is such a small state that we don't have much influence nationally. Our Electoral College votes are never courted to predict who will win the presidential races.
Kentucky has plenty of issues that need attention, and Andy Beshear continues to focus on them. He respects, supports and serves teachers, public workers and unions and all Kentuckians.
He has fought the opioid epidemic. He is fighting to maintain health insurance for pre-existing conditions. He knows, with Kentucky's limited resources, that priorities must be determined. He wants to be a governor for all of the people and will spend his time respectfully working with all. I appreciate the work that he has done as Kentucky's attorney general.
I urge you to support Andy Beshear to focus on state issues. We deserve a governor who cares for all of the people of our state and who will call attention to Kentucky for all of the right reasons.
