It's interesting to watch the egotistical, high-brow CEOs of so many high-tech companies who have either forgotten, or maybe never learned at their Ivy League universities, the basics of Economics 101: "Never mix business with politics."

Not to obey this important tenet is suicide to the bottom line of any for-profit enterprise. The proof is in the market reactions against the big Silicon Valley tech companies whose stock market values invariably fall when they publicly tout their political preferences, which are bound to alienate those market segments that disagree. One does not have to attend school to learn this simple axiom. It's just common sense.

But here I contradict myself. Common sense is in short supply these days, especially among those who believe themselves superior to us Joe Sixpacks in fly-over country.

Our culture is descending into the pits in many ways and this is one of them. Pray that the Golden Rule once again becomes popular.
