Sandy Sears Burns


FREEPORT, N.Y. -- Sandy Sears Burns, 66, of Freeport, New York, formerly of Paducah, died Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at her home.

Born on June 3, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Carl Harkey Sears and Elizabeth "Friday" Weatherington Sears. A 1971 graduate of Paducah Tilghman High School, she went on to study elementary education at Western Kentucky University. Following graduation, she married and moved to Long Island, New York, eventually settling on the south shore in Freeport, where she was a secretary for the Freeport Public Schools until retiring in 2006. She enjoyed painting, gardening, UK basketball, the New York Yankees, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her loving husband of 43 years, Kevin John Burns of Freeport, New York; daughter, Heather Burns Minichiello and husband, Peter of Somers, New York; son, Scott Landon Burns of Carson City, Nevada; grandsons, Drew and Kyle Minichiello; a sister-in-law, two brothers-in-law, several nieces and nephews, and many cousins.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2019, at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2019, at the funeral home, with Rev. Dean Emerson officiating. Interment will follow at Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
