HICKMAN -- Robert Louis Hughes, 91, of Hickman, died November 29, 2019, at Jackson Purchase Medical Center.

Mr. Hughes was a veteran of the U. S. Marines and a retired surveyor for the U. S. Corp of Engineers. Until recently he fished the mighty Mississippi and was locally known as a commercial fisherman.

He was born in Hickman on May 2, 1928, to the late Bob and Hazel (Sudberry) Hughes. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen (May) Hughes; son, Richard Lynn Hughes and sisters, Lena Margaret Lawson and Lois Peeler.

Mr. Hughes is survived by his sons, Tim (Susan) Hughes and Terry (Laura) Hughes all of Paducah; grandchildren, Hilary Hughes of Nashville, Tennessee, Zach Hughes of Woodinville, Washington and John Robert Hughes of Paducah; nieces, Janet Caplicki and Darlene Lange and their families.

Funeral services are set for Tuesday, December 3rd at Strong Funeral Home at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jason Sipes officiating the service. Burial will be in the Hickman City Cemetery with Marine Military Honors.

Visitation will be held at Strong Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 3rd from 11 a.m.. until service time at 1 p.m.
