Jerry G. English


BENTON -- Jerry G. English, 76, of Benton, died on Friday, July 12, 2019, at the Calvert City Convalescent Center.

Born Tuesday, October 20, 1942, in Briensburg, he was the son of the late James English and the late Mabel (Mobley) Wood.

Jerry was a veteran of the United States Navy.

He served many years as Marshall County Sheriff and was a former President of the Sheriffs association, and later served as District Three County Commissioner. He was also founder of the Marshall County Sheriff's Boys and Girls Ranch, and a member of the Briensburg Masonic Lodge.

He received many awards and recognitions for his service to Marshall County, including Marshall County Chamber Citizen of the Year, 2009 Public Service of the year award, and was instrumental in the installment of the veterans memorial located in Mike Miller Park, which is named the Jerry G. English Veteran's Plaza in his honor.

He was an avid UK basketball fan, loved dirt track racing, and a good poker game.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Bonnie (Griggs) English of Benton; son, Troy English wife Autumn of Calvert City; daughters, Tiffany English of Calvert City and Tesha Treas and husband, Michael of Benton; brother, Jackie English of Briensburg; sister, Linda Edwards of Fairdealing; grandchildren, Blake English, Travis English, Trace English, Alex Montgomery and husband, Cole, Stoney Hendrickson, Jack Hendrickson, Hunter Treas, Gage Treas, September Watkins, and Johnnie Jo Hollis; and great-grandchildren, Camden English, Sadie English, and Ava Watkins.

A funeral service will be at noon on Monday, July 15, 2019, at Collier Funeral Home, located at 211 West 5th St, Benton, KY 42025 with the Rev. Jeremy Short and Brian Roy officiating. Interment will follow in New Hope Cemetery, in Benton.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2019, at Collier Funeral Home.
