GRAND CHAIN, Ill. -- Edmond George Bridewell, 88, of Grand Chain, formally of Mounds, died at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis.

Mr. Bridewell was a teacher, coach and administrator for 37 years at Shawnee High School. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Fay McCabe Bridewell; son William Robert Bridewell of Green River, Wyoming; daughter Beth Elaine Dover of Grand Chain; grandchildren Kiele Bridewell Jensen and Logan Bridewell, both of Rock Springs, Wyoming, Jonathan Dover of Lone Oak, Kentucky, and Alex Dover of San Antonio, Texas; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn Lake of Crown Point, Indiana; a stepgrandson, Kelly Moneyhun of Bend, Oregon; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmond Gottlieb Bridewell Jr. and Versa VonNida Bridewell.

Friends may call 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge, where services will follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Larry Buckles officiating. Interment will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge. Full military honors will be given by the United States Navy Burial Team and area veterans.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorials to the Grand Chain Library or the Mounds Library in memory of Ed Bridewell.
