A committee charged with providing direction for the preliminary design and environmental study phases for improvements to the bridge along U.S. 51 between Wickliffe and Cairo, Illinois, will hold its first meeting on Nov. 14.

Deemed the U.S. 51 Ohio River Bridge Advisory/Environmental Justice Committee, the group is comprised of 28 members and will work with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the Illinois Department of Transportation, as well as the Federal Highway Administration, to steer the project.

"This committee is a group of people and stakeholders who represent the community and provide comments and advice to the project team," said KYTC District 1 Chief Engineer Kyle Poat. "While the public is welcome to attend this organizational meeting, the opportunity for public participation will be limited during the initial organizational effort."

The meeting will be held between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the Fort Jefferson Welcome Center in Wickliffe. Anyone seeking further information can call the U.S. 51 bridge team at 502-339-3557 or visit www.US51Bridge.com.
