HOPKINSVILLE -- Trigg County Superintendent Travis Hamby announced his resignation Thursday to the Trigg County Board of Education.

Hamby gave written notice that he will resign effective July 1 to become superintendent of Allen County Schools the same day.

In the letter to board members Hamby stated, "I am extremely appreciative of the experiences I have had while serving Trigg County Public Schools over the last 12 years."

Hamby joined the district on July 1, 2007, as the assistant superintendent of operations and personnel and has served two terms as superintendent.

Hamby went on to say in his letter, "Trigg County Public Schools has a committed and dedicated staff that works tirelessly each day to empower the next generation. It has been my honor and privilege to serve the students of this community alongside the great team of teachers, support staff, and leaders that make up Trigg County Public Schools."

The Trigg County Board of Education will begin the search process for the next superintendent within the coming weeks.
