HARRISBURG, Ill. -- Managers at the Shawnee National Forest are proposing a change to the recreation fees, including an increase in camping fees at Pine Ridge Campground, new fees at certain day-use areas, and a Forest Annual Pass.
The proposed camping fee at the Pine Ridge Campground in Pounds Hollow Recreation Area, Gallatin County, may be raised from $10 per night to $15 per night for campsites that include an electrical hookup. Non-electric campsites will remain at $10 per night.
A day-use fee of $5 per vehicle is proposed for:
• Garden of the Gods Recreation Area - Observation trail.
• Pounds Hollow Recreation Area - Swimming beach.
• Johnson Creek Recreation Area - Boat launch.
• Pomona Boat Launch on Cedar Lake.
• Little Grand Canyon Trailhead.
• Bell Smith Springs Interpretive Site.
A Shawnee National Forest annual pass also will be created which will grant the holder year-round use of the recreation facilities at these day-use-fee sites. The cost for the annual pass is proposed to be $30; final cost will be determined through this public comment process and further analysis.
The public is invited to comment on the proposed fee changes. The comment period is set to end by close of business on Dec. 6.
