MURRAY -- Briggs & Stratton Corporation announced Thursday that its Murray production facility will close by fall of 2020.

The company, which specializes in producing small vertical-shaft engines, is consolidating operations at its Poplar Bluff, Missouri, facility.

According to the Murray-Calloway Economic Development board, this will mean the loss of 600 full-time positions in the local job market. The board will be actively concentrating on recruiting other companies to the area.

Impacted employees will be granted the opportunity to relocate to another facility and, according to Briggs & Stratton, the Poplar Bluff plant will be hiring to accommodate the increased production.
