A Paducah man died Saturday night in a single-vehicle collision at the intersection of Kentucky Dam and Benton roads.

Michael Winstead, 47, had been traveling west on Benton Road around 11:34 p.m. when his vehicle struck a guardrail as he attempted to merge onto Kentucky Dam Road. The vehicle left the north side of Kentucky Dam Road, hitting an embankment. Winstead was not wearing his seat belt, and the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department believes speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the collision, deputy Zackary T. Dunigan said in a news release Sunday.

The McCracken County Coroner pronounced Winstead dead at the scene due to blunt force trauma, Dunigan said.

Mercy Regional EMS and the Reidland Fire Department assisted at the scene, he added.
