McCracken County authorities arrested a Paducah man — who is not legally allowed to buy a firearm — after he allegedly tried to purchase a firearm from a Paducah business.

McCracken County Sheriff's detectives say Steven L. Davis, 38, visited the firearms dealer last week but was denied after his name came up on a national background check database. The denial stemmed from a conviction earlier this year for a domestic violence conviction in McCracken County, which involved a firearm.

On Thursday deputies arrested Davis, who was charged with one count of fraudulent firearms transaction. He was taken to McCracken County Regional Jail.
