Murray Cardiology offers care and convenience

Calloway County residents now have another option for cardiology care that's closer to home, thanks to a recent expansion by Mercy Health.

Mercy Health-Murray Cardiology opened its doors Nov. 25 at 1000 South 12th St. in Murray, where Primary Care Medical Center is located. The new, growing practice stems from a partnership between Mercy Health and PCMC to bring specialty heart care closer to Murray and also the area's surrounding communities.

Murray Cardiology is open 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. It's accepting new patients for appointments.

"Cardiac disease is a major problem in our country and more and more people are diagnosed with it every day," said Ashley Wilson, Murray Cardiology nurse practitioner and APRN. "So, preventative measures -- just controlling your blood pressure, healthy diet, exercise -- all of those are going to help prevent heart disease."

Wilson earned a master's degree in nursing from University of South Alabama and received her bachelor's degree from Chamberlain College of Nursing in St. Louis, Missouri. She also earned a subspecialty certification in cardiology from the University of South Alabama.

"Cardiology's always been near and dear to my heart," she said, about her background. "I just know that there's a problem nationwide with heart disease and, starting in ICU and covering bypass surgery, it just kind of went from there."

The practice can perform echocardiograms and stress tests for patients, according to Wilson, although chemical stress tests have to be done elsewhere. It offers other services, including for coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, valvular heart disease, hypertension, pacemaker followups and chest pain.

Wilson hopes Murray Cardiology patients get easier, more convenient access to cardiology care.

"We can see new patients," she said. "We get referrals from Primary Care Center, and then we see a lot of follow-up patients that were already established at our Paducah office as well."

Patients can call 270-226-1124 to schedule their appointment.

"All they have to do is dial our main number and press option 1," added Ashley Parrott, Murray Cardiology's practice manager. "Our availability is as quick as today. We do same day add-ons and next day. It's a relatively, very easy process."
