A Paducah man died in a car accident near Reidland Monday, but investigators believe a fatal medical event caused the man's death.

McCracken Sheriff’s deputies, fire and EMS responded to a single-car accident at 11:30 a.m. on Reidland Road between U.S. 60 East and the Kentucky Dam Road fork. A 2015 Lexus driven by Roger Smith, 64, of Paducah left the roadway and struck a sign, a fence, a truck and a house. Witnesses said Smith suddenly slumped over in the car and drove off the road.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Office report, Smith was unresponsive when first responders arrived and they started CPR. McCracken County Coroner Amanda Melton said it appears he suffered a fatal medical event and died from that, and not from any injuries received from the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
