A Mayfield woman died Wednesday afternoon in a collision between a dump truck and her minivan.

Graves County Coroner Brad Jones said a 911 call reported the wreck at North 17th Street and Ky. 121 North at 4:13 p.m. He arrived and pronounced Caroline Copeland, 83, of Mayfield dead at the scene.

The police investigation showed that Copeland pulled her 1998 Chrysler minivan off North 17th Street, turning left onto Ky. 121, Chief Nathan Kent said.

A dump truck owned by R&W Backhoe, Dozing and Trucking was southbound on Ky. 121. The minivan pulled into the path of the dump truck, driven by Donald Phelps, 63, of Farmington, Kent said.

"The truck's operator took evasive action but was unable to avoid striking the driver's side of the minivan," Kent said.

Phelps was not hurt.
