The Kentucky State Police reported a Marshall County inmate was apprehended Tuesday morning after he walked away from a work release program the day before.

Police said Robert W. Fritz, 40, of Louisville, walked away from a work release program Monday afternoon at the Marshall County Animal Shelter in Benton.

At around 8 p.m., the Marshall County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a stolen vehicle not far from where Fritz was last seen.

Tuesday morning, the sheriff's office received information from OnStar, which was equipped in the vehicle, of the vehicle's possible location. OnStar reported a possible location of a rest area off Interstate 64 in Shelby County, Kentucky.

Shelby County Sheriff's deputies assisted, finding Fritz sitting in the stolen vehicle, a GMC Sierra truck, at the rest area. He was taken into custody without incident and lodged in the Shelby County Detention Center.

He faces multiple charges out of Shelby County and was also served with a warrant for escape from Marshall County.
