The Interstate 24 bridge that connects Kentucky and Illinois will have a lane closure 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Dec. 9-12.

Illinois Department of Transportation crews will perform maintenance work on the structure carrying I-24 over the Ohio River.

This work is planned on a weather-permitting basis. Emergency vehicles will be allowed through the construction site as quickly as possible.

Through traffic is encouraged to seek alternate routes while this work is underway. One possible detour is on U.S. 45 using the Irvin S. Cobb Bridge, also known as the Brookport Bridge. Kentucky motorists can take Exit 3 (Cairo Road), turn right and go to U.S. 45 North, cross that bridge and follow U.S. 45 back to I-24 at Illinois Exit 37. Illinois motorists can follow that route in reverse order.t
