Hearing for former fishing coach Parks set for next month

John Parks, a former volunteer fishing coach for McCracken County High School, is set for an August hearing after making a brief appearance in McCracken County Circuit Court Friday morning.

Circuit Judge Tim Kaltenbach scheduled an Aug. 16 evidentiary hearing for Parks on Friday, who is accused of sexual abuse against a teenage male who had participated on the school's fishing team. He faces charges of first-degree sexual abuse and multiple counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor.

The hearing will concern a defense motion to suppress statements on grounds that Parks requested an attorney, according to Commonwealth's Attorney Dan Boaz.

Parks was arrested in February after a McCracken County Sheriff's investigation. The Kentucky State Police had contacted the department in reference to allegations of inappropriate contact and communication between Parks and a minor. Detectives said they found pornographic images involving children on Parks' electronic devices during the investigation.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
