MURRAY -- An early-morning fire Wednesday claimed the life of a Murray woman, Calloway County Coroner Ricky Garland said.

Garland identified the victim as Lanie Gray, 19, of Murray. He said she is the person firefighters removed from a burning unit within the Riviera Courts Mobile Home Community on Murray's north side.

Murray Fire Chief Eric Pologruto said the fire was reported at about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday and firefighters were on the scene in about two minutes. However, by the time they had arrived, the mobile home was heavily engulfed in flames. The call also had reported that one person was trapped inside.

He said one firefighter immediately began operating a hose on the outside of the mobile home, while two other firefighters went inside to search for the person trapped and found someone not long after entering the home. Firefighters then turned the person over to awaiting personnel with the Murray-Calloway County Ambulance Service, but it was determined that the victim had succumbed to injuries received from the fire.
