Inmates at the Shawnee Correctional Center in Vienna, Ill., handed off dogs they trained in the prison to mostly veteran families Wednesday. The dogs underwent three months of obedience training through the Shawnee Wellness Assistance Therapy Training (SWATT) program, a partnership between the prison and the Project Hope no-kill shelter in Metropolis.
