Averitt Express has been recognized in a national survey as a military-friendly company. According to Viqtory, the company which compiled the survey, military-friendly employers strive to help veterans and other members of the military community transition into employment in the civilian world. In addition to hiring, they assist with retention, advancement and employee development programs. Averitt pledged in 2016 to hire 1,200 veterans by 2020, recently achieving that goal five months early.

Leon Owens, president of Swift & Staley, has been appointed to the Murray State University Board of Regents by Gov. Matt Bevin. He will serve a term expiring June 30, 2025. The board consists of eight members appointed by the governor and three other members, including a teaching faculty representative, a non-teaching employee representative and the student body president.

Sierra Williams-Barnhart, APRN, has joined Murray-Calloway County Hospital's Oncology and Hematology of Murray. She graduated from Murray State University with a bachelor of science degree in nursing and completed her master of science in nursing as a family nurse practitioner from Indiana Wesleyan University. She completed over 700 clinic hours and previously worked as a registered nurse/case manager at the Anna May Owen Residential Hospice House, and Spring Creek Health Care. In her new role at Oncology & Hematology of Murray, she will plan care and provide follow-up care to cancer patients in our region.

Gov. Matt Bevin has made the following appointments to Kentucky boards and commissions: Allison Carter Rains, a Paducah emergency medicine physician, to the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services; Krista Amy Fennel, a Paducah nurse practitioner, to the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Advisory Council; Betty Dobson, Paducah, co-founder of The Upper Town Heritage Foundation; and Betty Baker-Wharton, Cadiz, to the Kentucky African-American Heritage Commission.

Jansen Barrett, a physical therapist assistant at Baptist Health Rehabilitation, has been selected as the recipient of the Outstanding Physical Therapist Assistant Service Award by the Kentucky Physical Therapy Association. She will receive the award at the KPTA 2019 Annual Conference in Lexington Sept. 28. Barrett serves as the KPTA's district chair. She has worked at Baptist Health Rehabilitation since 2016. She is a graduate of the physical therapist assistant program at West Kentucky Community and Technical College.

Steve Cunanan has been named chief executive officer of the American Red Cross Kentucky region. In this role, he will also serve as the CEO of the Louisville area chapter. The Kentucky region includes the Louisville area, Bluegrass area, eastern Kentucky, south center and western Kentucky chapters.

Janice Cleary has joined Independence Bank in Paducah. She will serve as vice president and lender at the New Holt Road location, focusing on consumer and residential mortgage lending. Cleary has over 35 years of banking experience. She is a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wis., the Kentucky School of Banking, National Consumer Credit School in Norman, Okla., and Moebs Pricing Institute in Long Beach, Calif.

Crizeldo Cariaso, MD, has joined Murray-Calloway County Hospital's Murray Neurology. He completed his medical degree at the University of the East Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center. He continued his education with residency training in family medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation and neurology. His neurology residency was at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and State University of New York at Stony Brook University Hospital. He also completed a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at the New York University Langone Medical Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. Cariaso previously worked as a neurologist at the Southern New Hampshire Medical Center. He also has over 10 years' experience in assessment and management of all neurological cases in the outpatient, inpatient, intensive care unit, and the emergency department.

Terry Bradley has been named senior vice president and director of retail client experience by the Paducah Bank board of directors. Bradley joined Paducah Bank in April 2015. His 35-year career as a banking professional has included experience in retail operations, trust, accounting and investment banking, deposit operations, treasury management operations, and regional treasury management sales. He earned the Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) designation in 2008.

District 1 State Rep. Steven Rudy has been recognized by the Kentucky Rehabilitation Association as an advocate of programs that offer people of different abilities opportunities to lead economically and personally independent lives. He has been given the association's legislative award because of his work to fully fund the Vocational Rehabilitation program, which helps to serve and rehabilitate those with disabilities. Rudy serves as the chair of the appropriations and revenue committee and is a member of the agriculture committee.

Natalie Orange, BSN, RN, IBCLC, has been named the new lactation consultant for Mercy Health-Lourdes Hospital. Orange joined Mercy Health-Lourdes Hospital in 2001 working in the obstetrics department as a surgical technician. She returned to school and earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from Western Governors University after first receiving an associate's degree in nursing from West Kentucky Community and Technical College. Orange was recently certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners as a lactation consultant. To obtain this distinction, Orange completed 90 hours of education in addition to 1,000 hours of lactation-specific clinical practice.

Nurse practitioner Alison Sasseen, APRN, recently joined oncologists Luis Concepcion, MD, Winston Chua, MD, and Obiageli Ezewuiro, MD, at Baptist Health Medical Group Hematology & Oncology. Sasseen has more than 20 years of clinical experience, including more than 15 years as a family nurse practitioner in a hematology and oncology setting. She will manage inpatient and outpatient treatments, including chemotherapy regimens and related side effects. She earned both bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing from Murray State University. She is a member of the International Honor Society of Nursing and the Oncology Nurses Society.

Marcie L. Venter, Murray, an assistant professor, has been appointed to the Native-American Heritage Commission by Gov. Matt Bevin. She will represent institutions of higher learning and serve a term expiring Sept. 1, 2023.

Allison Rains, MD, an emergency medicine physician who serves as the medical director of emergency services at Baptist Health Paducah, was recently appointed to a four-year term of the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services by Gov. Matt Bevin. Rains, who will represent physicians who are routinely involved in the emergency care of ill or injured children, is employed by Team Health Emergency Medicine. The Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services regulates EMS licenses and ensures all licensed and certified EMS workers in Kentucky practice within the state's code of conduct for emergency services.

John Williams Jr. has been promoted to private wealth financial adviser, the Nashville area complex of Wells Fargo advisers recently announced. This recognizes Williams' focus on the skills, products and services to address the needs of high net worth clients. Williams has been a part of the Wells Fargo advisers community for 21 years and has 30 years of experience in the financial services industry. He holds degrees from Emory University, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the College of Financial Planning. He is a Certified Private Wealth Advisor, Certified Financial Planner and Certified Investment Management Analyst professional. Williams leads the Williams & Roof Wealth Management Group of Wells Fargo advisers based in Paducah.

Kristen Fridy, PA-C, has joined Murray-Calloway County Hospital's Murray Orthopaedics. Fridy graduated from the University of Central Florida with a bachelor of science in health sciences and completed her master's of science in physician assistant studies from Bethel University in McKenzie, Tenn. She has worked as a certified physician assistant since 2013 in various roles including Baptist Health of Paducah and Fast Pace Urgent Care Clinic.

Shannah Poindexter, community relationship manager for Lourdes Hospital's home health and hospice departments, has been presented the Distinguished Leader of 2019 award by the Kentucky Association of Hospice and Palliative Care (KAHPC). The association honored Poindexter for her commitment to the hospice mission and to the promotion of end-of-life care. KAHPC describes award recipients as consistently exhibiting initiative in their job performance and possessing excellent organizational and creative problem-solving skills, which contribute to effectiveness and improved efficiency of the hospice industry. Earlier this year, Poindexter received the Leader of the Year Award from Paducah Professional Women Inc. She has been with Lourdes since 21012.

Independence Bank has been recognized at the national level by American Banker Magazine for the sixth consecutive year as a "Best Bank to Work For" in 2019. Independence Bank was the only Kentucky bank ranked in the top 25, being named 20th out of 85 organizations ranked across the country. The program, which began in 2013, evaluates banks that have at least 50 employees working in the United States and are classified as a commercial bank, thrift, mutual association, mutual savings bank, savings and loan association or a savings bank. The evaluation focuses on eight core categories: leadership and planning, corporate culture and communications, role satisfaction, work environment, relationship with supervisor; train, development and resources; pay and benefits; and overall engagement.

Angela Williams, PA-C, has jointed Murray-Calloway County Hospital, at Murray Medical Associates. Williams graduated from Christian Brothers University with a bachelor of science in biology and completed her master of science in physician assistant studies in 2017. She has worked at Dube Orthopaedics in Nashville, Tenn., and will be working at the Murray Medical Associates walk-in clinic.

Svetlana Famina, MD, recently joined the medical staff of Mercy Health-Lourdes Hospital. Famina, a psychiatrist, is providing services at Mercy Health-Behavioral Health, Lourdes' behavioral health department. She earned her medical degree from Saba School of Medicine in the Dutch Caribbean. Famina completed both an internship and residency at the University of Louisville. She is a member of the American Psychiatric Association.
