Dr. Oz: Female doctors are more sensitive with patients
LA JOLLA, Calif. — Most women would agree that female physicians offer a more comforting experience over their male counterparts. However, with only one in every nine plastic surgeons being female, it is hard to say the same in regards to choosing a cosmetic surgeon.
On an recent episode of “Dr. Oz,” he stated, “What we male doctors know when it comes to giving you the best care is that female doctors do treat you differently and sometimes better.” Recent reports are supporting Dr. Oz’s claim.
An article titled “Do Women Make Better Doctors” published in May 2010 by The New York Times argued, “Several studies have show that female doctors tend to be more encouraging and reassuring, use shared decision-making, ask more psychosocial questions and spend more time — up to 10 percent more — with patients than male doctors do.”
As Dr. Oz said himself, “Female doctors tend to be better communicators and tend to spend more time with their patients in general.” — AP
