The American Cancer Society is seeking teams to be a part of the McCracken County Relay For Life, as the all-night fundraiser steadily nears with little more than a month away.
Designed to raise awareness of cancer and help fund the work of the cancer society, Relay For Life will run 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. May 31 at Carson Park. This year marks the 100th birthday of the cancer society.
While many teams do the majority of their fundraising leading up to the event, some hold creative fundraisers to bolster their contributions throughout the night, playing off an overall theme which will be “Racing For A Cure” this year in McCracken County.
“Relay For Life draws attention to the progress made in the fight against cancer,” said Tom Dolan, community representative for the cancer society and the Relay For Life of McCracken County. “Many participants are our family, friends and neighbors who have faced cancer themselves. Their involvement helps bring hope that, together, we can eliminate cancer as a major health problem.”
Funds raised through the event go toward prevention and early detection education, cancer patient programs and services, and funding for research grants to institutions like the University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
