Lung cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths across Kentucky, but more than 80 percent of such cancers can be cured if detected early. Baptist Health Paducah will offer that chance with a newly recommended, low-dose CT screening, beginning next month.

The CT scan will be available for $200 — not covered by insurance or Medicare — and includes a same-day consultation with a cardiovascular specialist to those who meet the following criteria:

n Current or former heavy smoker.

n 55 to 75 years old.

n Less than 10 years since quitting smoking.

“This screening is particularly needed in our region because of the high rate of lung cancer,” said Bob Seely, director of radiology. “Baptist Health Paducah treated 203 lung cases last year, more than any other type of cancer. It also provides a great opportunity for smokers because, while the screening isn’t covered by insurance, we’re able to offer it at an affordable cost.”
