Rhea Jeanette Boyd passed away in Nashville, Tennessee, on Wednesday, October 30, 2013. Born December 31, 1932, in Calloway County, Kentucky, to the Rev. B.R. and Margarette Winchester, she was a graduate of Lone Oak High School in Paducah, Kentucky, and a member of Lone Oak Baptist Church, where her father was minister for 18 years.
In 1950 Jeanette married Dwayne Boyd. She was co-owner of Boyd’s Grocery in Lone Oak for many years. While living in Paducah, she was instrumental in forming the Lone Oak Womens Club. She also became a Kentucky Colonel for her work in getting the seat belt law passed in the state of Kentucky. In 1985 Dwayne and Jeanette moved to Marietta, Georgia, to live near their sons and became members of Sandy Plains Baptist Church. Jeanette was a Realtor with Buckhead Realty while living in Georgia. In 2000, they moved to Brentwood, Tennessee, to live near their daughter. Jeanette became a member of Brentwood Baptist Church and worked for Barnes Realty for a short period of time.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Judy Scruggs of Murray, Kentucky.
Jeanette is survived by her husband, Charles Dwayne Boyd of Brentwood, Tennessee; daughter, Debbie (David) Ward of Brentwood; sons, Richard (April) Boyd and Brent Boyd of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Lori (Nate) Fowler, Kelley (Michael) Calabrese, all of Brentwood, Alexandra (Nathaniel) Counts, David Boyd, Brooke Boyd and Brendon Boyd, all of Atlanta; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean Neel of Mobile, Alabama, and Jenna (Mark) Lassiter of Brentwood.
To celebrate her life, Mrs. Gayle Haywood will conduct a service at 11 a.m. Monday, November 4, 2013, at Brentwood Baptist Church, located at 7777 Concord Road in Brentwood. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will follow at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.
