Larry Mitchel DeJournett, age 63, of Symsonia, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. at Baptist Health Paducah.
Larry was born in Dexter, Missouri, on April 27, 1950. He served in the United States Army Reserve as a Drill Sergeant during the Vietnam War. He taught auto collision repair at the Paducah Area Technology Center, from which he retired this past June after twenty-eight years of service. He was a dedicated instructor, known for his love and concern for his students. He has been a member of Clarks River Baptist Church since 1995. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed both hunting and fishing. Most of all, he found great joy in being with his family.
He is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Nancy Wynn DeJournett, of Symsonia; his daughter, Robin Smith and husband Adam, of Symsonia; his sons, Shane DeJournett, of Pryorsburg and Jeremy DeJournett and wife Sara, of Paducah; his sisters, Linda Markle and husband Edward, of Radcliffe and Debbie Browder and husband Tom, of Fulton; his brothers, Rocky DeJournett, of Puxico, Missouri, Andy Swallows and wife Donna, of Fulton and Matthew Bye and wife Catherine, of Union City, Tennessee; his grandchildren, Storm and Gabe, of Symsonia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, MC and Delois May Kinney DeJournett.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, November 2, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home.
Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. Saturday until service time, at the Lone Oak Chapel. Rev. Donald Wann will officiate.
