Mary M. “Gil” Ott
LOUISVILLE — Mary M. “Gil” Ott, 90, of Louisville, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Monday, October 28, 2013.
She was born December 15, 1922, in Paducah, KY., the daughter of the late Edward H. Gilbert and Emma Grace (Niehoff) Gilbert, and was a Registered Nurse, having graduated from the Army Nursing Cadet program at Nazareth College.
Mary was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, and an accomplished bridge player.
In her professional life, she contributed significantly to her field of psychiatric nursing, opening the first crisis center in the city of Louisville. She worked at a variety of settings including: VNA, Seven Counties Mental Health Facility, Kentucky Children’s Reception Center and worked as a head nurse in Southern Indiana in the Mental Health Hospital.
Mary’s other interests included traveling and supporting the arts. She was a member of the Louisville Women’s Club, Louisville Bridge Club and was on the Board of the Louisville Orchestra for many years. She was a member of St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church.
She is preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Lee Wilson.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, August J. “Bud” Ott Jr.; four children, Dr. Michael T. Ott (Linda) of Houston, TX., Marilyn Rosenbaum (Dr. Lee Rosenbaum) of Boston, MA., Nancy Ott Nobles of Louisville and Dr. Joseph Ott III (Dee) of Winchester, KY.; sister, Dorothy Carter of Paducah; and six grandchildren, Dr. Daniel Rosenbaum (Kate), Diana Rosenbaum, Christine, Michelle and Angela Ott, and Virginia “Jenny” Nobles.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 1, 2013, at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church, 2119 Payne Street with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, “In St. Matthews.”
