MOUNT VERNON, Ind. — Mary Berneice Miller Pickard Gibbons, 95, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Paducah, died Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at Deaconess Hospice.
During World War II, Mrs. Gibbons worked at Republic Aviation, building P47 Thunderbolts. She then worked as a caregiver.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Frederick Rhein Gibbons; and a daughter, Harriett Joyce. Her parents were Harry and Lillie Miller.
She is survived by six children, James David Pickard Jr. of Warner Robins, Ga., Frederick Edmond Gibbons of Duncan Okla., Charles Leavell Gibbons of Evansville, Ind., Laura Alice Schelhorn of Mt. Vernon, Ind., Patricia Ann King of Chandler, Ind., and Mary Catherine Miller of Evansville, Ind.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Mt. Vernon, with Mike Shore officiating.
Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2013, and from noon until the funeral hour on Saturday at the funeral home.
