CALVERT CITY — Charles “Pete” Smith, age 79, of Calvert City, Ky., passed away at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 29, 2013, at Lourdes hospital in Paducah.
Mr. Smith was a member of Little Cypress Baptist Church, where he directed the Choir and Youth Choir for many years. Pete sang tenor as a member of the Smith Brothers Quartet. He was co-owner of C&L Construction Co., Inc. of Calvert City.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley D. Smith; two sons, Bobby R. Smith and wife Fran of Calvert City, Ky., and Christopher C. Smith and wife Kirby of Austin, Texas; one daughter, Shelia Ann Rushing and husband Stan of Dallas, Texas; two brothers, Lonnie Smith of Calvert City, Ky., and Donald Smith of Hardin, Ky.; two sisters, Wanda Lambert and Sharon Dunigan, both of Calvert City, Ky.; six grandchildren, Jessica Powell, Derek Smith, Chase Rushing, Shantell Jenkins, Jacob Smith and Grant Smith; three great-grandchildren, Dallas Davis, Kruz Powell and Jayden Jenkins.
Pete was preceded in death by one brother, Joel Smith, and one sister, Lucille Lee, and his parents, Elza Ray and Hattie Mae Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at the Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home of Benton, Ky., with Rev. Patrick Gerwitz officiating and Rev. Jewell Barrett. Burial will follow in the Marshall County Memory Gardens.
The Smith family will receive friends after 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at the funeral home.
