Joseph L. ‘Joe’ Wilson
FANCY FARM — Joseph L. “Joe” Wilson, 88, of Fancy Farm passed away at 5:50 a.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at Mills Health and Rehab Center in Mayfield.
Mr. Wilson was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps 5th Marine Division during World War II where he participated in the Occupation of Japan, earning a Good Conduct medal as a rifle sharpshooter. He also served on many boards during his lifetime.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Magy Masterson Wilson; two daughters, Karen Shupe and husband Walt of Fancy Farm, and Elaine Hogancamp and husband Jimmy of Gilbertsville; five sons, Wayne Wilson and wife Diane of Fancy Farm, Dr. Lanny F. Wilson and wife Rev. Linnea B. of Hinsdale, Ill., Denis Wilson and wife Denise of Fancy Farm, Rick Wilson and wife Margaret of Gilbertsville, and Dr. Ronald Wilson and wife Cinda of Paducah; four sisters, Sister Dorothy Wilson SCN of Louisville, Ky., Ruth Collins of Lexington, Ky., Shirley Westerman of Louisville, Ky., and Rose Nell Douthett of Florida; three brothers, Harold Wilson of Fancy Farm, Charles Wilson of Paducah and James Wilson of Fancy Farm; 23 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by a grandchild, Lauren Wilson; and two brothers, Cloyd Wilson and Philip Wilson. His parents were Joseph Leslie and Beatrice Cissell Wilson.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2013, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, with the Reverends Darrell Venters and David Willett officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in St. Jerome Cemetery.
Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. Friday, September 27, 2013, at the church, with prayers at 7 p.m., and also Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until Mass time. A bereavement meal will follow the graveside committal service at St. Charles Parish Hall.
