Gene Medley, 86, of Paducah, Ky., passed away Saturday morning, September 21, 2013, at Lourdes hospital.
Gene was born in McCracken County, to Charles Armistead Medley and Margaret Parks Medley. He retired as a supervisor of Lone Oak Sanitation and was also proficient as a welder, machinist, iron worker, electrician, carpenter, and HVAC technician. He has accomplished everything from building houseboats to remodeling homes, and wanted his next task to be figuring out how to operate a smart phone.
Gene served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of Southland Baptist Temple. More than anything, he enjoyed having his family around and being spoiled by his girls.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of 67 years; two daughters, Deloras Byrd of Paducah and Judith Brown (Tony) of Owensboro; four grandchildren, Dennis Hooker (Natalie), Richard Cornwell, Jeri Riley (Brad), and Darrin Hooker (Terri), as well as “adopted” granddaughter, Sandra Mitchell; eight great-grandchildren, Jacob Doughty, Tanner Hooker (Amanda), Jessica Turner, Kasi Turner, Chandler Cornwell, Tyler Hooker, Cole Riley, and Alivia Boulton; one great-great-granddaughter, Peyton Hooker; one brother, Larry “Bill” Medley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Bobbie Fox; and his grandparents, Noah and Annie Parks and Charles and Lettie Medley.
Services will be held Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Lindsey Funeral Home with Rev. Topper Council officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Paducah.
Friends may visit on Monday evening, September 23, 2013, between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
