ORLAND PARK, Ill. — Leonard Charles Windhorst, 83, of Orland Park, Ill., and Metropolis, Ill., passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013. He was born September 21, 1929, to Reuben H. and Sophia W. (Bremer) Windhorst. He married Helen Mae Jackson May 6, 1948.
Funeral services will be Monday, September 23, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home with Ron Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
He is survived by his wife going on 65 years, Helen Mae; one daughter, Susan Miles; three sons, Pat Windhorst and wife Pam, Mike Windhorst and wife Jan and Tim Windhorst; five grandchildren, Patrick Windhorst and wife Holly, Parker Windhorst and wife Jessica, Hank Windhorst and wife Kristen, Emily Wisdom and husband Jonathan and Mariah Windhorst; four great-grandchildren, Walt, Lucy, Leo and Jemma Windhorst; two sisters, Thelma Lawrence and Lois Konemann; and three sisters-in-law, Eleanor Windhorst, Bonnie Lillie and Linda Smallman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Keith; and one brother, Donald Windhorst.
He was raised in Massac County but lived his adult life in Orland Park, Ill. He worked and retired as an Iron Worker. He belonged to Chicago Local Union 1, and was co-owner of two construction companies. He was a member of 32nd Street Church of Christ in Paducah.
Friends may call at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home from 9 a.m. Monday, September 23, 2013, until the funeral hour of 11 a.m.
Pallbearers are: Patrick Windhorst, Parker Windhorst, Hank Windhorst, John Brandon Smallman, Raymond Walker and Chris Barfield.
