David Melvin West, 66, of Paducah, passed away at his home Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at 9:55 p.m.
David was born in Moline, Ill., October 27, 1946, to Paul and Edith West. He was a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy serving overseas as a surgeon at Naval bases in Spain and the Philippines. He received his medical training at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and was board certified as a General Surgeon and was a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. He was recognized as a most compassionate doctor who expressed his love for his patients and his profession throughout his whole career. He leaves a legacy of dedication and service associated with Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah. He also had a great love for photography, music and cooking. He is best remembered by those close to him as a dedicated husband and father.
He is survived by his loving wife, Angela Marie Kaufman West of Paducah; his daughters, Ashley West of Nashville, Tenn., Madeleine and Hannah West, both of Paducah; his sons, Christian West of Colorado, Bradley, Paul and Charles West, all of Paducah; his sister, Diane Sweeton and husband Les of Ft. Worth, Texas; and his brother, Dennis West and wife Lee of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Melvin West and Edith Mae Farmer West; and one son.
A funeral Mass will be held Monday, September 23, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Father Tom Buckman will officiate.
Friends may call Sunday, September 22, 2013, from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. at Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home. Prayers are scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Lone Oak Chapel.
