MADISONVILLE — Wanda Phelps Atkinson Wedeking, 83, of Madisonville, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home in Madisonville.
She was born July 13, 1930, in Providence, to the late Harry B. Phelps and Ava Louise Riley Phelps. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Harry Donald Phelps.
Mrs. Wedeking was a member of First Baptist Church in Madisonville where she attended the Yates Sunday School class. She was the executive secretary to the head librarian at the Paducah library. She previously attended the First Baptist Church in Hopkinsville where she attended Mrs. Bassett’s Sunday School class. Prior to living in Hopkinsville she was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Paducah and First Baptist Church of McLeansboro, Ill.
She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Bill Wedeking of Madisonville; four sons, Howard G. (Libby) Atkinson of Paducah, Lin (Suzanne) Atkinson of Atlanta, William David (Jackie) Wedeking of Ocoee, Fla. and Bill J. Atkinson of Paducah; two daughters, Teresa Atkinson Cross of Knoxville, Tenn. and Susan Diane Wedeking (Bryan) Ridge of Flora, Ill.; one sister, Marilyn (Raymond “Jug”) Edmiston of Madisonville; one brother, Dudley Phelps of Madisonville; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, September 13, 2013, at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Leonard and the Rev. Howard Atkinson officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, September 12, 2013, and after 9 a.m. until the service time Friday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be: John Bernal, Ryan Cross, Jaime Carreno, Will Atkinson, Trevor Ridge and Ian Ridge.
