BOWLING GREEN — James Griffith Hines, 88, of Bowling Green, died at his home Sunday, September 8, 2013. He was born in Morgantown and was the son of the late James Richard Hines and Clarice Griffith Crow of Morgantown.
Jimmy Hines is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Mae Etta Cohron Hines of Bowling Green; one daughter, Donna Hines Furlong of Bowling Green; two grandchildren, Jennifer Furlong DelPozo (Andrey) of Urbana, Ill. and Kent E. Furlong (Jenna) of Bowling Green; one brother, Warren W. Hines of Destin, Fla.; her sisters, Pat Frederick of Bowling Green and Sarah Troutman of Philpot; sisters-in-las, Tempie Cohron of Bowling Green and Patricia Smith (Ronald) of Alma, Ark.; one uncle, David H. Griffith of Bowling Green; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the founder and president of James R. Hines Corporation, James R. Hines Company, Hines, Inc. and at his death he was serving as a member of the board of directors of Hines Furlong Line. Mr. Hines represented the 4th generation of his family in the river transportation business.
Mr. Hines also served as director and director emeritus of American National Bank.
He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Pacific theatre, a member and deacon of The Presbyterian Church, Bowling Green Masonic Lodge 73 F&AM, Bowling Green Noon Lions Club, member of the board of trustees of the Ogden Foundation, Petroleum Club of Louisville, Kentucky, Propeller Club, and member of the American Waterways Operators. He was a proud supporter of Western Kentucky University basketball and a season ticket holder for 65 years.
Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel, and from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, September 12, 2013, at The Presbyterian Church. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at The Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
