OLMSTED, Ill. — Garry D. George, 73, of Olmsted, formerly of Mound City, died at 5:12 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 2013, at his home.
He was a U.S. Air Force Vietnam veteran and a member of Pulaski County Memorial VFW Post #8891 of Mounds. He was the former owner of the Southern Illinois Bus Service and a former dispatcher for the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department.
He is survived by one son, Gregory George of Cobden; one daughter, Jodi Palmer of Anna; two sisters, Roxie Freeman of Jacksonville, Fla., and Donna Kilgore of St. Louis, Mo.; four brothers, Joel George of St. Louis, Mo., Mike George of Union City, Tenn., Edwin George of Mayfield, Ky., and Randy George of Grand Chain, Ill.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother and an infant brother. His parents were Chellis and Lela Elizabeth (Hayes) George.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge with interment in the Chapel Cemetery in Cypress, Ill. Military honors will follow by the Illinois National Guard and area veterans.
