Marvin E. Brantley Jr.
KUTTAWA — Marvin E. Brantley Jr., age 88, of Kuttawa, died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, September 1, 2013, at his home in Lyon County with his immediate family at hand.
He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church and had worked as a brake mechanic for Sears in California from 1955 until 1968. He ran Lake City Oil in Lake City, Ky., from 1968 until 1976, worked as an EMT for Lyon County Ambulance Service in the 70’s and 80’s, and was Lyon County jailer for five years in the early 80’s.
Mr. Brantley worked full time at Dunn’s Funeral Home as a licensed funeral director from the mid 80’s until 2005 as he continued as a part-time funeral director until just earlier this year, 2013. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and served in the Bismarck-Archipeligo, New Guinea and the Southern Philippines.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Lee Brantley; and one grandson, Jimmy May. His parents were Marvin E. Brantley Sr., stepfather, Ervin DeMent and Ora Lee Hall DeMent.
Survivors include his wife, the love of his life for 67 years, Pauline Pool Brantley of Kuttawa; one son, Don Brantley and wife Mary of Kuttawa; two daughters, Connie Sue Brantley Perryman of Kuttawa, Paula Knoth and husband Mike of Kuttawa; three grandchildren, Renee Sims of Hardin, Ky., Nick Knoth of Louisville, Crissy Knoth of Kuttawa; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at Dunn’s Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Jones officiating, assisted by Rev. Mike Farmer. A private burial will follow for family and close friends at Maple View Cemetery in Marion, Ky.
