CADIZ — William A. “Bill” Sumner, 76, of Cadiz died Saturday, August 31, 2013, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn.
He retired as a press room operator for Johnson Controls. He was a member of Liberty Point Baptist Church, served in the U.S. Army during the Berlin Crisis, and was a member of the American Legion Post 74.
He is survived by one stepdaughter, Jennifer Baker of Cadiz; one stepson, Donnie Holland of Cadiz; three brothers, Robert “Bob” Sumner and Jessie C. Sumner, both of Cadiz, and Charles Thomas Sumner of Chicago; two sisters, Carolyn Ann Sumner and Marilyn Hart, both of Cadiz; three stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Odell Sumner; his mother, Ruby Cameron Sumner; his wife, Maxine Holland Sumner; and one brother.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at Goodwin Funeral Home with the Revs. Irvin Darnall and Paul Cannon officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at East End Cemetery in Cadiz.
