Leon M. Bright
MORTON, Ill. — Leon M. Bright, 80, of Morton, Ill., father of a Paducah resident, died at 7:06 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 17, 1933, in Knoxville, Tenn., to Gordon A. and Lucy (Clifton) Bright. He married Shirley J. Robbins April 16, 1955, in Rossville, Ga. She preceded him in death on June 18, 1991. He also was preceded in death by three brothers; and three sisters.
Surviving are three daughters, Tammy (Jeff) Williams of Paducah, Vickie (Dr. Dean) Beckman of Jasper, Ind., and Jan (Steve) Huette of Morton, Ill.; six grandchildren, Amber (Justin) Porter, Allie Beckman, Zach Beckman, Reece Beckman, Niki Huette, and Ashley Huette; three great-grandchildren, Braden Porter, Joseph Porter, and Lilly Porter; one brother, Alvin Bright of Detroit, Mich.; one sister, Katherine Sexton of Knoxville, Tenn.; two half sisters, Betty (Tom) Martin of Maryville, Tenn., and Shirley (John) Metcalf of Seymour, Tenn.; and one stepsister, Bonnie Kate Hackworth of Knoxville, Tenn.
He was a Korean War Army veteran where he served with the 82nd Airborne military police.
Leon worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 31 years in the grounds and service area, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of Kingston Pike Baptist Church in Lenoir City, Tenn.
Leon was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Green Bay Packers, and the Butler Bulldogs.
Local visitation will be from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton.
Additional services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City, Tenn. with the Rev. Dr. Ronnie Jones officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, and one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Lenoir City, where military rites will be conducted.
