SYMSONIA — Mr. James Earl Whitt, 85, of Symsonia, Kentucky, died on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at 11:10 p.m. at his residence.
He was born on Wednesday, March 14, 1928, in Symsonia, Kentucky. He was a member of Symsonia United Methodist Church. He retired from White Castle, where he was a construction supervisor. He was a member of the Symsonia Masonic Lodge #917, Shriners and the Scottish Rite. He was also a very charitable man and very well respected in the community. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served during WWII.
Surviving are his son, William “Doug” Clarke and his wife, Sherry, of St. Louis, Mo.; his daughter, Mary Beth Sharp and her husband, John, of Centennial, Colo.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Genevieve A. (Miller) Whitt; his brothers, John P. Whitt, Carlton Whitt, and Albin Whitt; and his sister, Betty Whitt. His parents were the late William Loyd Whitt and Cleo Styerss Whitt.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2013, at Collier Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Stephens officiating. Interment will follow in Clarks River Cemetery, Symsonia, Ky.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Collier Funeral Home. Masonic services will be held at 7:00 p.m.
